Tanjong Katong MRT (TE25) sits among the condos of Amber Road, Meyer Road and Tanjong Katong Road South, a short walk from the coast and better known for homes than hawker stalls. The eating is a little to the north: a compact strip of North Indian restaurants, Korean barbecue and late-night bars along Tanjong Katong Road, plus Katong V mall about fifteen minutes' walk up Amber Road. We leave the East Coast Road heritage shops and Katong laksa to the Katong & Joo Chiat guide, Old Airport Road Food Centre to Dakota and Geylang Serai to Paya Lebar — and note that the malls further up Tanjong Katong Road (KINEX, Tanjong Katong Complex) and Dunman Food Centre are closer to those neighbours; halal-certified food is scarce right by this station, so we have flagged what there is. Halal status is checked against the official MUIS register.

Halal

Pizza Hut Tanjong Katong

✓ MUIS halal-certified

A reliable rather than exciting pick, this dine-in Pizza Hut on the ground floor of Beng Tong Mansion is the closest halal-certified option to the station, a short way up Tanjong Katong Road. The familiar line-up of pizzas, pasta, wings and sides applies, with dine-in, takeaway and delivery all going. For a halal group wanting an easy, air-conditioned sit-down near the MRT, it does the job. MUIS halal-certified.

Nyonyas & Gentlemen

✓ MUIS halal-certified

On Level 4 of Village Hotel Katong, at the top of the Katong V complex, this restaurant lays out a buffet of fusion Peranakan and Southeast Asian dishes — beef rendang, sambal-spiced plates, mee siam and a carving station among them — across lunch and dinner. It is a rare sit-down halal option in an area short on them, worth the walk up or a quick bus. MUIS halal-certified.

Indian

Vatan Se

A casual North Indian kitchen in a conservation shophouse near the quieter southern end of Tanjong Katong Road, close to the station. The menu runs from butter chicken and tandoori to paneer dishes, thalis, chaat and breads like roomali roti, with plenty for vegetarians alongside the meat. The kitchen says it cooks without MSG or artificial colouring. A dependable spot for a group curry. Not MUIS-certified.

DARBAR Eat-Drink-Indian

A cosy North Indian restaurant a few doors along the Tanjong Katong Road strip, pairing the tandoor-and-curry repertoire — butter chicken, biryani, tandoori platters, paneer — with an Indo-Chinese section and a list of whiskies and wines. It suits a relaxed dinner more than a quick bite, and takes bookings for groups. Its own website makes no halal claim. Not MUIS-certified.

Bikanervala

An outpost of the well-known Indian sweets-and-snacks chain, a little further up Tanjong Katong Road and built around pure-vegetarian food. Come for chaat like raj kachori and pav bhaji, chole bhature, dosa and thalis, then a counter of mithai — jalebi, barfi and more — to finish or take away. Bright, casual and family-friendly, it is a good meat-free stop. Vegetarian, not halal-certified.

Korean

Danji Korean BBQ Buffet

A Korean-run barbecue buffet on the Tanjong Katong Road strip, recently returned to the neighbourhood after a spell away. You grill marinated meats — beef short rib, pork, chicken — at the table, backed by kimchi stew and a rotating set of banchan. The all-you-can-eat format makes it a fit for hungry groups, so come with an appetite and time to settle in. Not halal-certified.

Yun Ga Traditional Korean Restaurant

On the third floor of Katong V, Yun Ga leans as much on traditional Korean cooking as on barbecue — grilled meats sit beside comforting soups like galbitang and ginseng chicken, plus soft-tofu stew, kimchi pancake and generous banchan. The room is bright and well-ventilated, easier on the clothes than a smoky grill house. A solid Korean sit-down if you are up at the mall. Not halal-certified.

Chinese

Fu Lin Men Cantonese Dining

The closest proper restaurant to the station, this Cantonese kitchen runs an outlet inside the Chinese Swimming Club on Amber Road, a couple of minutes south. Expect dim sum and Cantonese classics — roast meats, seafood, claypot dishes — in a roomy clubhouse setting. As it sits within a members' club, it is worth booking ahead and checking on entry before you go. Not halal-certified.

Western & cafés

Tasca Restaurant & Bar

A lively newcomer on the Tanjong Katong Road bar strip, Tasca works a charcoal grill across an eclectic, border-crossing menu — Korean-style fried chicken, Indian tandoor plates, Western sharing dishes — with cocktails and beer to match. Dim, convivial and open late, it is built for after-work drinks and grazing rather than a formal dinner. It closes on Mondays. Not halal-certified.

The Tipsy Cow

A rustic, dimly lit bar-bistro further along the same Tanjong Katong Road strip, known for wood-fired pizzas — including quirky local-leaning toppings — plus pasta, chicken wings and comfort plates. Draught beer runs till the small hours (it closes at 1am), and there is outdoor seating and parking behind, which makes it a favourite on football nights. Not halal-certified.

Le Petit Katong

A women-owned, French-leaning café-bistro on the ground floor of Katong V, good for an unhurried brunch or an all-day sit-down. The kitchen ranges over wagyu beef burgers, truffle fries, pastas, schnitzel and steak tartare, with proper coffee and latte art to match. Relaxed and pet-friendly, it is a comfortable end-point if you have walked up from the station. Not halal-certified.

Good to know

  • Halal-certified food is scarce right by this station — the two options in reach are both a walk north: Pizza Hut on Tanjong Katong Road (a quick, certified standby) and the nicer Nyonyas & Gentlemen Peranakan buffet at Katong V. For a proper halal spread, ride one stop to Marine Parade (Parkway Parade) or two to Paya Lebar (Geylang Serai).
  • The heart of the eating is the Tanjong Katong Road strip, roughly an 8–11 minute walk north of the station, where North Indian restaurants (Vatan Se, DARBAR, Bikanervala), Korean barbecue (Danji) and a run of casual bars and craft-beer spots (Tasca, The Tipsy Cow, The BAR Station, Tapout Craft Beers) sit almost shoulder to shoulder — several stay open past midnight.
  • Katong V mall is the air-conditioned, sit-down option, about fifteen minutes on foot up Amber Road and Mountbatten Road or a short bus ride, with Yun Ga Korean, Le Petit Katong for brunch and the halal Nyonyas & Gentlemen buffet at Village Hotel Katong.
  • The immediate Amber and Meyer Road area is mostly residential condos; Fu Lin Men Cantonese is the closest proper restaurant but sits inside the members-based Chinese Swimming Club, so book ahead and check on entry.
  • Hours vary and some places take a weekday off — Tasca closes on Mondays — so it is worth a quick check before making a special trip.
