AI image by LocalRankStevens MRT sits on the Bukit Timah edge of a landed-housing and hospital-adjacent area, so there is no hawker centre or shopping mall at the exits. Eating here comes down to two small pockets: Alocassia Apartments on Bukit Timah Road, about five minutes' walk away, and a set of hotel-based restaurants on Stevens Road and Orange Grove Road, roughly 13 to 15 minutes on foot. The halal-certified options are chains plus one North Indian restaurant, and everything else is grouped by cuisine. Halal status is checked against the official MUIS register.
Halal
McDonald's
✓ MUIS halal-certified
The nearest certified meal to the station is this McDonald's at the foot of Alocassia Apartments, a short stroll up Bukit Timah Road from the Stevens exits. It has a drive-thru lane as well as counter service, and the usual burgers, fries, chicken and breakfast items. Handy for a quick bite between the office towers and the landed estates behind them, or for anyone waiting on a lift. MUIS halal-certified.

Subway
✓ MUIS halal-certified
A small Subway counter in the same Alocassia block, useful when you want something lighter and quicker than the burger chain next door. You choose the bread, fillings and sauces, and the sub can be toasted or eaten cold, with salads and cookies for anyone skipping the bread. It keeps daytime hours rather than late ones, so it suits lunch better than supper. MUIS halal-certified.

Zaffron Kitchen
✓ MUIS halal-certified
Zaffron Kitchen is a North Indian restaurant on the fourth floor of the RELC International Hotel, a longer walk than the Alocassia stops but the only sit-down halal restaurant we found around Stevens. The menu leans on tandoor grills, rich gravies and fish head curry, and the private rooms make it a natural pick for family lunches or a group booking. Reserve ahead. MUIS halal-certified.

Cafes
The Ritual
A plant-filled all-day cafe beside the Alocassia car park, and the closest sit-down coffee stop to the station. The kitchen bakes its own breads and pastries and works brunch plates, salads and protein bowls around them, with plant-based and gluten-free choices flagged on the menu. It opens early, around 8am, and closes in the early evening, so treat it as a breakfast or afternoon spot. Not halal-certified.

Pocket by Flip Coffee Roasters
Flip Coffee Roasters moved this small-batch cafe from Bukit Timah Road to Stevens Road in 2026, into a tall, bright room with big windows beside the Mercure hotel. It roasts its own beans and serves them as espresso drinks and filter brews, alongside toast, hummus, a shokupan breakfast plate and a short run of pastries. A daytime stop; the kitchen wraps up mid-afternoon. Not halal-certified.

Italian & Western
Al Borgo
A long-running Italian neighbourhood restaurant, tucked into the Alocassia block for more than a decade and open for both lunch and dinner. The kitchen turns out oven-baked pizzas and house-made pastas, including a showy cheese-wheel carbonara, plus Tuscan charcoal-grilled meats such as Fiorentina steak. About sixty seats, so book ahead on weekends. Diners can validate parking with their receipt. Not halal-certified.

Winestone
The hotel restaurant at Mercure Singapore on Stevens, built around steaks and other cuts served on stone boards with a wine list to match. Southeast Asian touches run through the Western menu, and there are sharing platters, seafood plates and weekday set menus for lunch. The hotel also sells bottles to take away from its wine cellar and runs a Sunday brunch. Easy for a group dinner or an office lunch. Not halal-certified.

GRUB
GRUB brought its casual bistro format to the Stevens Road hotel complex, with an outdoor seating area among the greenery that also welcomes pets. The menu is built on handmade burgers and comforting pastas, with a burnt cheesecake as the signature dessert, and it stays open from late morning until night. A relaxed choice for families and mixed groups who want a familiar Western menu without going into town. Not halal-certified.

Chinese & Singaporean
Teochew Restaurant Huat Kee
A family-run Teochew restaurant with roots going back to 1969, now on the second floor of the RELC building on Orange Grove Road. It is known for old-school Teochew cooking rather than modern reinterpretations, so expect braised, steamed and cold dishes of the kind that are getting harder to find. Lunch and dinner service with a break between, and reservations are worth making for groups. Not halal-certified.

Enjoy Eating House & Bar
The flagship of a small local group, Enjoy serves Singaporean dishes for sharing with a modern twist, in a dining room styled after the old-school eating house. Chef Joel Ong's menu includes Grandma's Te Kah Bee Hoon, opeh leaf hokkien mee, chilli prawns and a rendang beef short rib. It opens from late morning to midnight, which makes it one of the few late options around Stevens. Not halal-certified.

Japanese
Omakase @ Stevens
A dinner-only Japanese omakase counter that the Michelin Guide Singapore lists with one star. The set is an eight-course seasonal menu in a contemporary Japanese style, and the restaurant says it cannot accommodate non-seafood, vegetarian or vegan requests. It opens Monday to Saturday evenings, closes on Sundays, requires a reservation and asks for smart casual dress. A special-occasion stop rather than a casual one. Not halal-certified.

Good to know
- The halal options are McDonald's and Subway at Alocassia Apartments, and Zaffron Kitchen at the RELC International Hotel. No Muslim-owned independent turned up within reasonable walking distance, and the hotel restaurants on Stevens Road are not MUIS-certified.
- Only Alocassia Apartments is a real five-minute walk from the station. The Stevens Road hotel restaurants and the RELC building are 13 to 15 minutes away on foot, and Mercure Singapore on Stevens advertises a complimentary shuttle to the station, so check its schedule.
- The hawker food people associate with this part of town, at Adam Road and Newton, is not a short walk from Stevens. Those food centres, Cluny Court and the Botanic Gardens end of Bukit Timah Road each have their own guides.
- Hours vary. Omakase @ Stevens serves dinner only and closes on Sundays, The Ritual and Pocket are daytime cafes, and the hotel restaurants suit dinner best, so check times before you go.
- Raffles Town Club at Plymouth Avenue is a members' club and the Metropolitan YMCA restaurant is listed as closed, so both are left out.
