Mattar MRT sits in a quiet Geylang East pocket where the closest big hawker centre, Circuit Road, is covered in our MacPherson guide, so this guide gathers what else is genuinely walkable. For halal diners the nearest sizeable spread is the MUIS-certified 89.7 Supper Club, a 24-hour food court on the Geylang East edge; the immediate station area itself is light on certified halal. Around it sit a Michelin Bib Gourmand prawn-noodle stall on MacPherson Road, cafe brunches at the Lion City Sailors training centre and MacPherson Community Club, and a late-night Geylang East supper coffeeshop, each grouped by cuisine and ordered roughly by walking distance. Halal status is checked against the official MUIS register.

The closest thing to a one-stop halal meal near Mattar is 89.7 Supper Club, a long-running 24-hour food court on the Geylang East edge, roughly twelve minutes' walk east of the station and handy from Dakota and Paya Lebar too. Order across its counters in a single bill, from prata and murtabak to nasi and curries, Western grills, dim sum, congee and Chinese-style zi char and seafood. MUIS halal-certified.

Good to know

  • Mattar MRT (Downtown Line, DT25) sits under Mattar Road at the Merpati Road junction, in the Geylang East and MacPherson subzone. Exit A opens onto the residential Merpati Road side and its schools; Exit B faces Mattar Road, the MacPherson Community Club and, three minutes on, Circuit Road Food Centre. The older Merpati Road flats have been cleared, so the eating is spread thinly around the edges rather than on the doorstep, and most of this guide is a five-to-twelve-minute walk.
  • Confirmed-halal options right by the station are scarce. The nearest sizeable halal spread is the MUIS-certified 89.7 Supper Club food court, about twelve minutes east on the Geylang East industrial edge (which is also close to Dakota and Paya Lebar). For more, the halal stalls inside Circuit Road Food Centre are in our MacPherson guide, and the 24-hour Julaiha Muslim Restaurant further up MacPherson Road sits in our Tai Seng guide; Masjid Sallim Mattar on Mattar Road anchors the area's Muslim community. We mark 89.7 as MUIS-certified and describe the rest by how they cook.
  • The genuinely near-Mattar draws are a Michelin Bib Gourmand, Zhup Zhup (the former One Prawn & Co) on MacPherson Road, for prawn noodles and hae mee, plus easygoing cafes at the Lion City Sailors training centre and MacPherson Community Club, a new view-café in the Tong Lee Building, and a late-night Geylang East coffeeshop, Guan Guan, for zi char and Thai mookata.
  • Keep the neighbouring guides in mind, because Mattar shares its best food with other stations: Circuit Road Food Centre and its hawker stalls belong to our MacPherson guide, Old Airport Road Food Centre to Dakota, the Geylang Road lorong supper strip to Aljunied, and the 530-560 MacPherson Road stretch (Quan Lai Kway Chap, Julaiha) to Tai Seng. Several spots here keep their own hours, with Nom Bistro closed Tuesdays, Zhup Zhup closed Mondays and the Geylang East coffeeshop running late, so check before a special trip.
