Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Services: a customer and a provider in a bright, modern settingAI image by LocalRank

Non-destructive testing, or NDT, is how engineers check welds, pipes, tanks, ship hulls and plant equipment for flaws without cutting or damaging them. In Singapore the work is done by specialist inspection firms, many clustered around Pioneer, Tuas and Jurong, serving shipyards, refineries, fabricators and building owners. This guide lists seven firms that describe NDT services on their own websites, with notes on the methods each one publishes. Accreditation and approval wording below is each company's own statement, not a LocalRank endorsement. Use the list to shortlist two or three firms, then ask each for its current scope documents and a written quotation for your job.

1. Standard Non-Destructive Testing (SNDT)

Standard Non-Destructive Testing, usually shortened to SNDT, publishes one of the wider method lists among the independent firms in this guide. Its site groups the work into conventional testing, including ultrasonic, dye penetrant, magnetic particle and radiography, and advanced methods such as phased array, TOFD, eddy current, ACFM, IRIS and long-range ultrasonic. It also lists tank inspection, engineering consultancy, technical manpower supply, and training and certification. The company states that it holds SAC-SINGLAS accreditation to ISO/IEC 17025 for specific non-destructive tests, which is its own statement, so ask which tests the scope actually covers. Its office is in the Pioneer area of western Singapore, and enquiries go through the contact page or the general email shown there.

2. A-Star Testing & Inspection

A-Star Testing & Inspection describes itself as a Singapore-headquartered NDT and inspection company with regional offices in Malaysia, Indonesia and India. Its site lists advanced and conventional NDT, tank and tube inspection, in-service and third-party inspection, heat treatment, ship hull thickness measurement, underwater inspection and rope access work for marine and offshore assets. It states that it is a SAC-SINGLAS (ISO 17025) approved NDT company, a DNV approved NDE company for UT, RT, MT and PT, and holds ISO 9001:2015, all presented as the company's own claims. The website has carried new posts during 2026, which suggests the business is active. Requests for a quotation are made through its contact page or the enquiry email published on the site.

3. Altair Engineering Inspections

Altair Engineering Inspections, formerly A-Star Training & Consultancy according to its site, presents NDT as a mix of inspection, consultancy and training. Its menu separates conventional, advanced and specialised NDT, civil NDT, technical services, NDT products and systems, and NDT training. A BINDT directory listing describes services such as phased array, TOFD, long-range ultrasonic, tube testing and tank annular plate inspection, plus training and defect specimens. The company says it is accredited to ISO 9001, ISO 17025, SAC-SINGLAS, DNV-UKAS and bizSAFE Level 4 requirements, which is its own wording and worth checking against the actual certificates. Its Singapore head office is in the Boon Lay Way industrial area, and it lists offices elsewhere in Asia.

4. Cutech

Cutech is a Singapore-headquartered inspection group whose website, with a 2026 footer, lists ultrasonic, radiographic, magnetic particle and penetrant testing alongside positive material identification, hardness testing and rope access. Under advanced NDT it names phased array, TOFD and corrosion mapping. The footer says it is a Phenna Group company, so it is part of a larger group rather than an owner-run workshop, which some buyers prefer and others do not. Its homepage shows certification and class-society logos but does not explain them in text, so ask the team to state exactly which approvals apply to the work you need. The Singapore office is at Pioneer Junction, and enquiries are sent through the site's contact page or general email.

5. Jasscan Inspection

Jasscan Inspection calls itself a one-stop provider of inspection services and lists its head office at Tuas Lot in the shipyard and marine district. Its site lists X-ray and gamma radiography, ultrasonic testing, magnetic particle testing, liquid penetrant testing, ferrite testing and hardness testing. The company states that it is certified under ISO 9001 and accredited by SAC-SINGLAS, and that it has been approved by major marine organisations and classification societies; these are its own statements and the scope is not spelled out on the page. It also lists affiliate offices in Indonesia, Malaysia and Myanmar, which may matter for regional shipyard work. The website footer shows 2025, and the contact page carries a general email and telephone line.

6. Poly NDT (Maritec-NAIAS)

Poly NDT is the NDT arm of the Maritec-NAIAS group, and its site says it was established in 1975 to provide third-party, independent testing. The services page lists ultrasonic testing, magnetic particle inspection, radiography, dye penetrant, eddy current, hardness testing and ultrasonic thickness measurement. The company states that it is SAC-SINGLAS accredited and ISO 9001 certified, that its team includes ASNT Level III engineers, and that it is approved for ultrasonic ship hull inspections by eleven classification societies it names. These are all its own claims, so ask for the certificates and the scope. The Singapore headquarters listed on the contact page is on Pandan Loop in the west, and the site shows 2025 updates.

7. Arise Global

Arise Global says it is headquartered in Singapore and focuses on advanced NDT for industrial assets. Its website lists methods including phased array, TOFD, corrosion mapping, digital radiography, acoustic emission, magnetic flux leakage, pulsed eddy current, long-range ultrasonic, ACFM and tube inspection, plus lifting inspection and third-party inspection. That makes it a candidate when a job needs a specialised technique rather than routine radiography or magnetic particle checks. It lists offices in several countries, and its homepage shows a quarterly update dated in late 2025. The page does not print any accreditation statements, so ask directly what approvals and personnel qualifications apply to the method you need. The Singapore office is in the Toh Guan area of Jurong East, with a contact page and email.

How to choose

  • Match the method to the problem before you call anyone. Radiography, ultrasonic, magnetic particle, dye penetrant and eddy current each suit different materials and defect types, and advanced options such as phased array or TOFD cost more effort. Ask the firm to recommend a method for your asset and explain why it fits.
  • Ask for the accreditation scope and approvals in writing, not just a logo. Several firms here state SAC-SINGLAS, ISO or class-society approvals, but an accreditation covers named tests only. Request the certificate or scope document and check it with the issuing body before relying on a claim.
  • Check who actually performs and signs off the work. Ask what personnel qualification levels the inspectors hold, such as ASNT or equivalent schemes, who writes the procedure and who reviews the report. A firm that publishes Level III support or training services is often easier to question about this.
  • Think about location and access. Firms near Pioneer, Tuas and Jurong are used to shipyard and plant sites, while a civil or building job may need different on-site arrangements. Ask about site access, radiation safety arrangements, rope access or confined-space capability if your asset needs them.
  • Get a written scope, report format and timeline before work starts. Confirm what the report will contain, which standards it follows, whether re-tests are covered and how findings are handed over. Compare two or three quotations on the same scope, since NDT jobs are rarely like for like.
