IELTS preparation in Singapore ranges from weekend crash courses to full-time programmes at private schools, plus one-to-one coaching for people on tight deadlines. This list covers nine providers whose own pages describe IELTS preparation classes, from the British Council to language schools, private colleges and small specialist teachers. Each write-up is based on what the provider publishes about its course format, modules and delivery, and attributed to it. We have left out fees, promised band scores and pass rates, because those are marketing claims we cannot check. Use the list to shortlist two or three, then confirm current intakes, fees and test registration directly with the provider.

1. British Council Singapore

The British Council's Singapore arm lists IELTS Coach among its adult English courses, and its page says the organisation co-owns the IELTS test. The part-time course is described as capped at 16 students per class, aimed at learners at roughly CEFR B1 to B2, with a separate upper-intermediate version for people targeting higher bands. The site also describes an online route that combines group and private live classes with IELTS specialists, plus one-to-one and small-group private lessons. Learners can compare classroom and online delivery on the same site, and the Council publishes free preparation resources alongside its paid courses. Details change by intake, so confirm current intakes, schedules and the course format directly with the Council before enrolling.

2. The Princeton Review Singapore

The Princeton Review's Singapore site lists an IELTS preparation class run in small batches, with live sessions taught from Cambridge and Oxford study material, according to its page. It describes two schedules, a longer standard plan and a compressed fast-track plan, and says classes can be taken online or at its centre in the Somerset area. The course covers Academic and General Training formats across listening, reading, writing and speaking, and the site mentions mock tests, periodic assessments and topic-based practice, plus mentoring from instructors. This suits learners who want a structured class timetable rather than a private tutor, and who may need a slower or faster pace depending on their test date. Check current batch dates and class size with the centre.

3. LSBF Singapore

London School of Business and Finance's Singapore campus lists a Preparatory Course for IELTS covering speaking, listening, reading and writing. Its page describes a full-time pattern of weekday sessions over about two months, and a part-time pattern of weekend sessions with extra time for practice tests. The page says students sit full mock exams that are graded with feedback. It also states that the campus is recognised by the British Council as an IELTS registration partner, which it says lets students register for the official test through the school; that is the school's own statement and worth confirming when you enrol. The campus is in the central business district, which suits people working or studying downtown who want evening or weekend options.

4. TMC Academy

TMC Academy lists a Preparatory Course for IELTS among its English programmes. Its page says the course sharpens reading, writing, speaking and listening skills, and teaches the exam format, scoring, question types and time-management strategies. It describes lectures, tutorials, workshops and presentations, practice exams with individual feedback, and a full-time duration of about two and a half months. The page recommends that students complete its Advanced English classes beforehand, so this is aimed at learners who already have a solid base rather than beginners. TMC Academy is a private education institution in the Geylang area, which may suit students from the east who prefer a full-time campus course over short weekend classes. Ask the school how the course is scheduled in the current intake.

5. inlingua School of Languages

inlingua's Singapore school lists IELTS preparation among its English exam courses, with an intensive route for people who want faster preparation and a standard or accelerated route for a steadier pace. Its site also describes an IELTS writing course focused on the Academic module, offered in small groups or individually, and a private IELTS course with customised one-to-one coaching. The school says part-time groups run with a minimum of four and a maximum of twelve students. It also describes personal study plans and direct feedback from teachers who specialise in test preparation. The school sits in the Orchard area, near Cuppage, so it is convenient for city commuters who want a choice between group and private coaching. Confirm intakes and formats with the school.

6. Berlitz Singapore

Berlitz's Singapore site lists an IELTS preparation course delivered as personalised one-to-one sessions, either in person or online, which makes it a fit for learners who would rather not share a classroom. The page says the course covers listening, reading, writing and speaking, with versions for the Academic test, used for university entry, and the General Training test, used for migration or work. It states a prerequisite of Berlitz Level 6, which it describes as roughly CEFR B1.2, so beginners may need general English first. Adults are generally recommended, according to the page. The Singapore centre is in the Orchard Road area, and the site lists weekday and Saturday opening hours for enquiries; check current timetabling directly.

7. School of Language International

School of Language International describes itself on its site as a referral agent of IDP, which co-owns the IELTS test. Its IELTS page lists three routes: a general English course with an IELTS focus, a separate exam preparation class that meets twice a week for a set number of weeks, and flexible one-to-one private lessons. The page says classes use authentic materials and strategy training, and mentions free IELTS masterclasses run with IDP. It is based in International Plaza near Tanjong Pagar MRT, with weekday enquiry hours on its site. The school's copyright line dates from 2022 although its pages mention 2026 material, so ask it which intakes are running now and what each format includes before you commit to a schedule.

8. English Explorer

English Explorer is a language school that says it is part of the Learning Explorer group. Its IELTS page describes a short batch-style course of eight two-hour sessions, held on Friday evenings, covering listening, reading, writing, speaking and mock exams with individual feedback. The school offers in-person classes at its Tanjong Pagar centre and a live online option. Its site states that its teachers hold the CELTA teaching qualification, a claim made by the school itself. The format suits working adults who can commit one weeknight rather than a full-time programme, and the site shows upcoming batch start dates, which change over time. Confirm the current schedule, class size and whether the batch you want is open before you enrol.

9. IELTS University Singapore

IELTS University is a small specialist run by a single teacher who goes by Jonathan on the site, rather than a large school. Its page describes a short programme of four Sunday evening face-to-face classes near Dhoby Ghaut and Somerset, supported by recorded video lessons, fortnightly Zoom sessions and WhatsApp support. The class covers all four IELTS components for both Academic and General Training, with grammar and vocabulary teaching, and prepares students for computer-delivered and paper-based formats. The site gives the teacher's own account of his experience and student results; treat those as his claims, not independent figures. Because it is a one-person operation, ask about group size, who marks your practice writing and how much feedback you will receive.

How to choose

  • Decide first whether you need Academic or General Training, because universities and professional bodies usually ask for Academic while migration applications often use General Training. Providers on this list say they cover both, but check that your chosen course spends its time on the version you will sit, especially the writing tasks.
  • Match the format to your timeline. Full-time programmes over several weeks suit people with a gap before a deadline, while weekend or weeknight classes suit people who work. One-to-one coaching can move faster but is usually a different commitment. Ask each provider for the current intake dates, class length and total contact hours.
  • Find out how your writing and speaking will be marked. These are the components where individual feedback matters most, so ask who gives it, how often, and whether mock tests are graded against the published IELTS criteria. A course that only offers answer keys leaves you guessing about your own performance.
  • Be cautious with outcome promises. A provider cannot set or mark the exam, so band-score guarantees and pass-rate claims on websites are marketing statements, not independent evidence. Prefer providers that describe what they teach and how they assess you, and read any guarantee terms carefully before paying.
  • Check where and how you will register for the test itself. Some schools say they are registration partners of a test owner, while others simply teach, and registration is always separate from the course. Confirm test dates, computer-delivered or paper formats and fees with the official IELTS organisations, not only with your course provider.
